Mesa Counts on College is a partnership between the City of Mesa, Mesa Public Schools and Mesa Community College.
Our goal is to DOUBLE the number of low income youth who complete college or a certificate program within the next 10 years.
WHY?
There are not enough young people in Mesa earning job certification or a college degree.
Our recent data tells us:
-
100 students enter the ninth grade
- Only 8 percent of low-income graduate from college
College completion is critical. Think of the positive impact it can have on Mesa’s young people and our community.
-
An educated workforce attracts businesses. This means more higher-paying jobs.
-
Individuals with a job certificate or college degree are more likely to be working and earn more money.
So, what do we do?
Help us create a culture of college-completion in Mesa. It will take all of us – parents, educators, businesses, non-profit organizations and retirees.
There is a new definition of “college” that includes all post-high school learning opportunities: a four-year college or university, a two-year community college, vocational education and certificate programs.
Get to work, Mesa.
Think about what you can do in your daily work that can support our college completion initiative. Talk to friends, family and co-workers.
